Uber’s 55,000 square foot New York City headquarters directly reflects the energy and efficiency of the ever-evolving global technology company. Located in the Terminal Store Building, one of the main challenges was to create a cohesive working environment from ten previously separate office parcels. A folding “Broadway Thread” concept was developed to unify the previously static spaces by creating nodes of interaction including: breakout environments, collaboration areas, fitness areas and game rooms.
The design highlights the original infrastructural elements that are unique to the building, including brick walls, a combination of concrete and wide-plank flooring and exposed timber posts and beams.
A mix of open brainstorming and private meeting spaces are incorporated throughout to encourage productivity and create a collaborative and mobile workplace. The space also features an extensive pantry/ town hall area and dedicated driver receiving/ training area.
