Michael Harris Spector opens first studio in his garage in Great Neck, NY.

Michael Harris Spector receives first AIA Award
Michael Harris Spector receives first American Institute of Architects ARCHI Award for the design of Expressway Office Center.

The Man Who’s Changing the Face of Long Island
The Newsday Magazine features Michael Harris Spector and speaks to the designs changing the fabric of Long Island. As of 1984, Michael Spector designed over 99 buildings in Long Island, creating a new standard in suburban architecture.

Scott E. Spector Joins the Firm
After earning his Master’s of Architecture at the University of Maryland, Scott E. Spector joins the firm as a Junior Designer.

Marc B. Spector Joins the Firm
After earning his Master’s of Architecture at the University of Michigan, Marc B. Spector joins the firm as Junior Architect.

NYC Office Opens
Spectorgroup opens office in Midtown Manhattan.

Alphonse D’Amato Federal Courthouse and Office Building
Spectorgroup partners with Richard Meier & Partners to design the Alphonse D’Amato Federal Courthouse and Office Building. The 12-story building was placed on a podium to give presence on an otherwise flat and undifferentiated exurban site. The design reinterprets the courthouse type to enable it to function as a new kind of civic institution, receptive to public events as well as to the formalities of the judicial process.

Designs First NYC Interior for Deutsch Inc.
In 2003, Spectorgroup designed and implemented the relocation of Deutsch Inc. from 215 Park Avenue South to 111 Eighth Avenue putting Spectorgroup on map for Corporate Interiors.

Redevelopment of Brookfield Place Formerly Known as the World Financial Center
Spectorgroup was brought on as the executive architect and tasked with the coordination and oversight of the entire project team; ranging from design architects to specialty consultants. Charged with ensuring that the vision of the overall project was achieved, Spectorgroup and Brookfield Properties worked closely to develop a “master plan.” We remain in this role today and have been lauded for our ability to know exactly what’s needed to support a design and to respectfully bring a vision to fruition.

Long Island Office Relocates to Woodbury
Art and architecture fuse together in Spectorgroup’s new Long Island offices.

Designs First Luxury Car Showroom on Auto Alley
Spectorgroup designed the LEED Gold Mercedes-Benz Manhattan Showroom. Located on the full block fronting 11th Avenue between 53rd and 54th Streets, the high-tech facility combines brand and architectural design elements to create a full customer experience.

Spectorgroup Celebrates 50 Years by Giving Back
For the firm’s 50th Anniversary, Spectorgroup partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Nassau County and asked our own architectural staff to submit designs for a residence that embodied the fundamental tenets of Habitat for Humanity’s mission, as well as our firm’s design philosophy and expertise. The selected design was constructed in Bryant Park and later moved on-site to make a special family’s lifelong dream come true.

Bronx Behavioral Health Center – First Building Information Modeling project for the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York
Spectorgroup served as Master Architect/Engineer and Master Planner for the $350 million major campus reconstruction under the Dormitory Authority State of New York (DASNY), on behalf of their client, the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH): a unified, 1.4 million SF site master plan, 6 new buildings and over 400,000 SF of LEED Gold facilities. This project was the first use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) for both the DASNY and OMH.

The design for Federal Home Loan Bank of New York’s new headquarters received a Design Excellence Award from the American Institute of Architects.
