MFA Financial Inc.1 [TESTING]

New York, NY
FPO - LEED Certified Project

We are designers, architects, strategists, planners and problem solvers who make inspired spaces that bring teams together.

The relocation of MFA Financial’s Manhattan headquarters to One Vanderbilt provided an exciting opportunity to design a modern space that reinvigorates and energizes the company’s culture. A customized workplace strategy process worked hand-in-hand with MFA’s employees to establish guiding principles and a planning approach to enhance the company’s core values and future business goals.

Breaking away from a previously enclosed office environment, MFA’s workplace promotes collaboration, transparency and a high-energy culture–reflecting the building’s physical connection to Grand Central Terminal. Private office quantities are reduced and standardized to support a flatter hierarchy and to create a more open office dynamic. The sophisticated space is bright and airy with views capturing some of the greatest architectural landmarks in the city. Linear lighting creates a playful, rhythmic pattern throughout the open spaces. Both architectural and decorative elements come together in the employee café and in an adjacent conference room, which has a retractable wall for town hall meetings and special gatherings.

Mixed-use spaces.

Collaboration areas are distributed across workstations and private offices to create pathways leading to several experiential areas. This includes spaces such as an oculus room, a music room, a meditation room and learning lounge - all designed for wellness and to enhance the way Colliers' employees prefer to work.
