The relocation of MFA Financial’s Manhattan headquarters to One Vanderbilt provided an exciting opportunity to design a modern space that reinvigorates and energizes the company’s culture. A customized workplace strategy process worked hand-in-hand with MFA’s employees to establish guiding principles and a planning approach to enhance the company’s core values and future business goals.
Breaking away from a previously enclosed office environment, MFA’s workplace promotes collaboration, transparency and a high-energy culture–reflecting the building’s physical connection to Grand Central Terminal. Private office quantities are reduced and standardized to support a flatter hierarchy and to create a more open office dynamic. The sophisticated space is bright and airy with views capturing some of the greatest architectural landmarks in the city.
Linear lighting creates a playful, rhythmic pattern throughout the open spaces. Both architectural and decorative elements come together in the employee café and in an adjacent conference room, which has a retractable wall for town hall meetings and special gatherings.
