Marc B. Spector, FAIA Elevated to AIA College of Fellows

The 2019 Jury of Fellows made up of AIA fellows from across the United States, awards the honor to members who have made significant contributions to the architecture profession on a national level. The AIA will honor the recipients at an investiture ceremony on June 7, 2019 at the AIA Conference of Architecture in Las Vegas. Only three percent of the AIA’s more than 100,000 members are recognized as Fellows.

“I would like to thank the College of Fellows Jurors for this very personal, meaningful honor,” said Spector. “I see my role as that of an experience creator, partnering with clients to embody the emotion and uniqueness of an organization and its neighborhood, imagining possibilities and marrying it to the future. Insomuch as this recognition is an acknowledgement of progress in that area, then I am pleased to have made an impact”. Mr. Spector is dedicating his Fellowship to his late father and Fellow, Michael Harris Spector, FAIA, founder of Spector Group.

Mr. Spector’s sponsor for his Fellowship application was Dr. James A. Chaffers, D. Arch., FAIA, Mr. Spector’s Studio Design Professor from The University of Michigan’s Taubman School of Architecture to whom Mr. Spector has maintained a 31-year relationship with. “I have long witnessed the growth, grace and giving of Marc’s gifted talents. He truly touches the lives of colleagues, clients, friends and the new generation of students entering our profession in genuinely thoughtful ways. In sum, Marc’s contributions reflect a wondrous skill and sensibility clearly reflected in ways that serve to “inspire rather than inflate…empower rather than impose.” said Chaffers.

With educational background including his Masters and Bachelor of Science in Architecture and currently a Dean Advisory Board Member from Taubman School of Architecture at the University of Michigan and Harvard GSD Executive Management program, Marc is recognized in both design and business spheres by individual awards including Outstanding CEO Award, 2018 from Long Island Business News. Most recently, Mr. Spector announced he will be leading his design team and Spector Group in participating in the 17th International Architecture Exhibition, la Biennale di Venzia, May 23 – November 29, 2020.
